Upon learning the truth, he sets out to find his birth family only to learn that his birth mother has passed away as well. As a result, he finds his twin brother who their birth mother raised while giving him up. When he sees his brother for the first time and the beautiful woman he's married to, he sets out to make his brother's life his own... Will he succeed and make John's wife love him or will she learn his evil secret? And when he begins seeing John's ghost, will he ruin his own plan to have a happy life living as John? It's just a little longer than Cursed Blood but still perfect for a night of reading, especially before going to bed! Hint, hint!

Excerpt

Matthew arrived in New York, rented a red VW Beetle, and drove to the address the detective had given him. Once parked in front of the house, Matthew was glad he made it safely after getting lost a few times and having to ask for directions. He had never been to a big city before, but felt at home among the tall buildings. The feeling surprised him because he had always lived in a smaller town. Matthew always thought he would stay in that type of life, taking care of his mother. Now that he caught of taste of a big city life, he wasn’t sure if he liked it better than the small town, but he did like it just the same.

Matthew looked around at the homes as he sat there. Located in the suburbs, just outside the city limits, the two-story home was painted white like the others in the neighborhood. Most of the houses had white picket fences around the front yard, like his brother’s house. All the homes had black trim and matching shutters on the windows, too. Matthew liked the appearance. It was a good place to raise a family.

Matthew took a deep breath and walked up the stone path to the front door. He hoped he had nieces and nephews. He wasn’t going to be lonely anymore. The idea of having a real family made his stomach hurt. He had never had butterflies like this before. What was he going to say? How was his real family going to react? Would they be happy to see him and welcome him into their home with open arms? Or would they turn him away like his birth mother had done? Matthew was scared, but this was something he had been waiting for. Matthew didn’t want to turn back after taking so long to get there. He had to find out why his mother gave him away. He needed closure.

Matthew rang the doorbell and waited. When no one answered the door, Matthew was disappointed that he came all that way and no one was home. He had given the detective so much money to find his blood family. As he stood there, he realized he didn’t really know what to say. He decided to wait a couple more days and come back when his head was clearer.

Matthew returned to his rented car and climbed in, still feeling disappointed that this had been a wasted trip. As he was getting ready to leave, Matthew saw a van drive up and park at his brother’s house. He watched as a man got out on the driver’s side, a man who looked like him. He had to be his brother. Before Matthew could get back out of the Beetle, he saw other people in the van. He saw a beautiful woman and three adorable children. They had to be his brother’s family.

Something came over Matthew, something he had never felt before—jealousy—and it ate away at him. There was no way he would be happy until he had a wife like that. This man who had his face did not deserve a wife as beautiful as that. He had not gone through the things Matthew had and couldn’t possibly appreciate someone so pure standing by his side. This was not fair. Matthew was the one who had grown up being beaten everyday for just breathing. Matthew was the one who had to clean up his mother’s vomit after she drank all night and then blamed him for her needing to drink so much. This man with this perfect life didn’t have to live this way, and that infuriated Matthew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stolen Identity , July 10, 2008  (Can be found on Amazon.com)

Raised by an abusive alcoholic mother, Matthew has experienced nothing but misery and pain. Even though his mother made sure he had clothes to wear and food to eat, it came at the price of his self-esteem and having to endure her mental and physical abuse. On her death bed, in her dying breath, she made sure her final act of abuse would be a lasting one. She revealed to Matthew he was adopted and that his real mother didn't want him.

In a search for his natural mother, Matthew learned she died as well, but the biggest shock was the fact that Matthew was a twin. Confused as to why his natural mother kept one but not the other, and angry that he was given away, Matthew sought out his twin, determined to get the life he should have had.

Matthew is one terribly unstable person, but not without reasons. Stolen Identity is chocked full of murder, lies, and deceit, and it's one hell of a read. My feelings for Matthew fluctuated. I understood why he felt as he did, but not enough to justify his actions even though he felt the world owed him. His actions weren't the only ones that shocked me. Matthew violates Allison, his brother's wife, in every aspect of her life and how she handled it really surprised me. I did have trouble adjusting to Amber Rigby Grosjean's writing style, but it wasn't enough to put me off the story. Stolen Identity is a good suspense thriller with some great surprise twists.

5 Stars!!!!!

Imagine waking up one morning and finding out that your entire life was a lie. What would you do? Matthew Peters lived his life thinking he was an only child and had no siblings or real family. In a flash that changed when his mother, on her deathbed, told him that he was adopted and the truth behind his birth and the circumstances that led up to his adoption.

Distraught, angry and frustrated he sought out legal help and an investigator to find his real mother and learn the truth about his identity. One phone call from the investigator caused his whole world to come crashing down and a chain of events that followed so horrific, deceitful and cunning it grabs the reader’s attention and holds it throughout the entire novel.

Rather than deal with the issues of his adoption and the knowledge that he has a twin brother; Matthew becomes hateful, resentful and angry at the life his brother is living and has decided it should be his. Lurking in behind bushes and spying on his brother and his family he learns their daily routines and decides to eliminate his brother John by taking him out of the picture completely along with anyone else that might stand in his way.

Pretending to be another person and learning everything about that person proved to be a difficult task, although at times the author lets you think that he has totally accomplished becoming his brother she is clever and masterfully draws the reader into this web of hate and deceit that Matthew has created and you think he might actually pull it off.

Matthew cleverly learns all he can about John’s wife Allison but the important differences and nuances about his life and his personality he tries to emulate, but really can’t. Allison and John’s marriage was rocky and he cheated her on with another woman. He was not very attentive and stayed late at work most nights. He rarely, if ever made advances towards his wife in any manner and would not sit down and do homework with his children or have a family fun night.

Although Allison and others noticed the differences in him not only at home, in the bedroom and at work, he was able to convince everyone that he had changed. Taking over John’s position in the advertising firm where he worked and encouraging his wife to return to modeling, set up alarms in Allison’s mind, but she never let on.

But the best-laid plans do not always pan out. After taking over John’s life he is arrested for murdering his best friend and a suspect in the killing of John’s lover. Although he does manage to talk himself out of it and create a veil of innocence around him, the reader hopes that he will eventually get caught and that Allison is playing along with him in order to find out what really happened to John and why.

Then, in walks his real father who found him and wanted to get to know him and his brother. Knowing that each had a different birthmark, Matthew did not deem it necessary nor want to prove his identity to him or anyone else. However, in the shower Allison does question him and stated that John had his birthmark removed. Matthew replied, it must have grown back which leads the reader to believe that Allison might now have confirmed in her mind that this was not John. Encouraging her to go back to modeling and taking her on, as client in his firm was another red flag for Allison to be careful.

Throughout the novel   Matthew finds himself in many difficult situations that he attempts to talk his way out of. He meets people that he knows as John and as Matthew and eventually his worlds become intertwined and the results: Well you will have to read the book to find out what happens and if he comes out ahead or gets caught.

Falling in love with another man’s wife does not always result in wedded bliss or a happy ending. Bangs of guilt and anguish force his to start seeing John wherever he went and the ghosts of others that he killed.

Through Allison and her cool and collected manner and sharp personality the author masterfully lures the spider (Matthew) in Allison’s web only to get snared.
